Most underwear is made to be forgotten. Dilling makes that impossible — once you’ve worn merino wool against your skin for a full day, synthetic fibres feel like a step backwards. For over a century, this Danish family has been quietly proving that natural materials, processed thoughtfully, are better for both body and planet.
Brand Intro
DILLING was founded in 1916 in Denmark as a family wool business. Today, the fourth generation — Morten Dilling — leads the company, transforming it into a vertically integrated, direct-to-consumer brand. The range covers organic merino wool and organic cotton clothing, thermal base layers, and outdoor garments for the whole family.
The organic merino wool is sourced exclusively from partner Fuhrmann in Patagonia, Argentina — mulesing-free and certified to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). Most products are dyed in-house at DILLING’s own Danish dyehouse; select products are dyed at facilities in Germany and Poland. Cutting and sewing takes place at their owned facilities in Lithuania and Ukraine — the latter 50% owned by DILLING since 2025.
Inspiring Story
When Morten Dilling joined the family business in 2009 after studying business economics in Copenhagen, he didn’t just modernise the sales channel — he transformed the production philosophy. One decision defines the brand: refusing to use “Superwash” chemical treatment, the industry standard that makes wool machine-washable by coating fibres in a thin layer of plastic resin. That plastic coating gradually breaks down in the wash, releasing microplastics — directly from a garment worn against bare skin. Dilling refuses it entirely.
The result is a 10-hour dyeing cycle using no heavy metals or harmful chemicals — slower, more demanding, and entirely in line with the brand’s century-old belief that wool should remain a living material. Products dyed at their Danish dyehouse carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification.
Who is this for?
You value what touches your skin. You’ve moved away from fast fashion and want fewer, better pieces that last years. You run, hike, or simply want base layers that regulate temperature naturally — without synthetic assistance. You’re willing to invest in clothing where you know exactly how and where it was made, from field to factory.
