Liteway Scout Shelter – Ultralight Pyramid Bug Shelters from Ukraine

During my first hike in Iceland in Iceland I used a Piramid tent. Heavy winds and pooring rain. But five minutes later I was dry, drinking tea, and realising at how simple life becomes when you strip everything back. That’s exactly what Liteway’s Scout series does – and after years of dragging similar set-ups across the Alps, the Balkans and the Nordics, I can tell you: these are not tents for everyone. But if you’re the kind of stubborn lightweight freak who smiles when the forecast says “persistent heavy rain” and “midge plague”, welcome home.

As part of inspiring European consumers to buy local for a sustainable Europe, Liteway is the Ukrainian answer we didn’t know we needed until we did.

About Liteway Equipment

Straight out of Kyiv, Liteway Equipment started in 2018 when a handful of Ukrainian hikers and engineers got fed up paying European prices for Asian grams. Everything – every stitch, every Dyneema panel– is made 100 % in Ukraine. That means your money lands directly in the pockets of the people who are still building a future while the world looks the other way. Explore their world at liteway.equipment.

My Own Love Story with Pyramid Shelters

I’ve lost count of the nights I’ve spent inside pyramids just like the Scout. One flat patch the size of a two yoga mats, one centre pole, six pegs – boom, palace. Wind howling? No problem, the shape laughs at 70 km/h gusts (it makers a lot of noice – but the centerpole won’t break). Midges trying to colonise your face? Full mesh turns them into a National Geographic documentary happening on the wrong side of the wall. Andriy, the founder, says it best: “True freedom in the wild comes from shedding weight – without leaving ethics behind.” You will feel that sentence in your knees the first time you”ll swap your 2.5 kg tent for a 450 g Scout-style shelter and suddenly gain an extra 2 kg of chocolate. Worth it.

What They Make (and why it actually lasts)

In fact, I have a hard time calling the Liteway tenst just tents. So does Liteway. They call them tarps. But it’s a system with options of flysheets and inners. Pocho’s that can be used as tarps. And a lot more. Just have a look at their website! https://liteway.equipment/

  • Scout Full Mesh 3P (495 g) – three adults, zero bugs, ridiculous ventilation. Perfect when you’re bikepacking through Romania and the temperature drops 20 °C after sunset.
  • Scout Half Mesh 1P (320 g) – my personal favourite for solo fastpacks. One side solid, one side mesh.
  • Scout Tarp 3P (380 g) – the minimalist’s minimalist. Pair it with your trekking poles and laugh at people carrying 2 kg rain flies.
  • Their backpacks (Illusion 45L, etc.) are equally insane – under 600 g for a framed 45-litre pack. Only for people who weigh their toothbrush.

EU-made quality shows: bombproof stitching, tapes that don’t peel, and fabrics that simply refuse to die. Well, a little warning about the latter. It’s very very strong for such a low weight. But do not expect the same quality as a Hilleberg tent. This is for lightweight nerds who are counsious about the gear they use.

Buying this stuff keeps Ukrainian seamstresses employed and cuts out the 12,000 km container-ship nonsense.

Buying Liteway

Supporting Ukrainian makers right now isn’t charity – it’s voting with your wallet for a Europe where skilled craftspeople still have roofs over their heads. Yes, customs can sometimes hold parcels for two or three weeks (been there, refreshed the tracking page like a maniac), but when that feather-light package finally lands it’s Christmas in summer. Here is their website: https://liteway.equipment/

By mapping EU manufacturers weekly on www.ineurope.eu we’re proving that passionate, responsible gear still exists on our continent – and that choosing it actually changes lives.
