Did you know that Wolvis scarves are designed to survive a lifetime of wear? As part of inspiring European consumers to buy local for a sustainable Europe, this week we’re spotlighting a brand that proves that quality and artistry thrive when production stays close to home.
Wolvis is a Belgian poetic knitwear brand founded in 2013 by architect Griet Depoorter. Based in Ghent, the brand designs limited-edition scarves, hats, mittens, gloves, and knitwear characterised by offbeat colour combinations and luxurious textures. All pieces are crafted from premium extra-fine merino wool sourced responsibly and spun in Italy. 90% of production occurs in Belgium (Waregem and Sint-Niklaas), with specialised pieces produced in the Czech Republic, ensuring 100% European manufacturing.
Griet Depoorter began experimenting with a knitting machine during evening hours while working as an architect. Her passion deepened through fashion studies at SASK Academie in Sint-Niklaas, inspiring her to launch Wolvis in late 2013 with her first geometric-patterned scarves in carefully chosen colours. In 2016, she made the courageous decision to step away from architecture entirely to focus on the brand. What sets Wolvis apart is Griet’s unwavering commitment to local production. Despite opportunities to relocate manufacturing to countries with lower labour costs, she has maintained her partnership with the Waregem knitwear factory for over a decade, valuing the close relationships and transparency that Belgian production affords.
Wolvis pieces represent mindful luxury made in Europe. Each scarf or garment is designed to transcend seasonal trends, becoming a cherished possession that improves with age. By purchasing Wolvis, you support local Belgian craftsmanship, fair labour practices, and a circular economy model that includes free repair services, rental options through Dressr, and future resale programmes. The brand’s commitment to timeless design and durability means your investment truly lasts a lifetime—aligning with broader values of sustainable European consumption.
