The average imported t-shirt travels over 40,000 kilometres before it reaches your wardrobe. Le t-shirt Propre cut that distance by 92%. This small French family brand didn’t just talk about doing better — they spent four years building an entirely local production network, stitch by stitch, region by region. The result is a t-shirt you can trace from the flax field in Normandy to the seamstress’s hands in the Aveyron.

Brand Intro

Le t-shirt Propre was co-founded in June 2016 by Mathieu Lebreton and Fabrice Burguière, based near Rodez in the Aveyron, southern France. Shortly after launch, Odile — Fabrice’s sister — joined to manage production and day-to-day operations, cementing the brand’s identity as a true family venture. The concept is straightforward: make the most responsibly produced t-shirt possible, entirely in France, using only natural and organic fibres. From a single organic cotton t-shirt, the range has since expanded to include French linen tees, merino wool knitwear, socks, plaids, and sweaters — all made by a curated network of French artisans.

Inspiring Story

Le t-shirt Propre was born on a summer evening in 2015 on a café terrace in the Aveyron. Mathieu and Fabien found themselves, once again, questioning why so little about everyday fashion made ethical or environmental sense. Their first prototypes were sewn from curtain fabric by a local seamstress — a detail that perfectly captures their no-nonsense spirit. When they launched on the crowdfunding platform Ulule in 2016, they hoped for 100 pre-orders. They were overwhelmed. By 2020, after four painstaking years of production relocalisation, they achieved their founding ambition: a t-shirt 100% made in France. The linen grows in Normandy, is spun in Pas-de-Calais, knitted in the Somme, dyed in Haute-Loire, and hand-sewn in their Aveyron atelier. Today, over 100,000 customers wear the brand’s values proudly.

Who is this for?

You’ve stopped buying t-shirts every season because they fall apart anyway. You want to know exactly who made your clothes and where — not from a vague “made in Europe” label, but from a real map with real names. You prefer natural fibres that breathe, age well, and don’t shed microplastics in your washing machine. You’re happy to pay a fair price for something built to last years, not months. And you believe that buying well, once, is more sustainable than buying cheap, often.
