Brand Intro

Mr Jan Gear was founded by Jan, an outdoor industry expert and nature photographer from Bruges, Belgium.​
Before launching the brand, he co-owned the climbing and outdoor equipment company Singing Rock.​
Since 2012, Mr Jan Gear has grown from a single backpack into a wider range of photo gear and travel essentials for photographers who spend serious time outdoors.​
Every product is handmade in the brand’s Slovak workshop by a small team that designs, cuts, and sews each piece by hand.

Inspiring Story

The name “Mr Jan” came from suppliers who found Jan’s Flemish surname difficult to pronounce and simply started calling him Mister Jan.​
The brand itself grew out of a challenge from friends who pushed him to stop criticising existing gear and start building better alternatives himself.
To turn that into real products, Jan worked with Slovak designer Martin Suchan, whose workshop later became the birthplace of all Mr Jan Gear products.
That collaboration brought together Jan’s field experience, Martin’s technical craftsmanship, and repeated testing by photographers in real outdoor conditions.
