Making a pair of jeans traditionally consumes up to 10,000 litres of water. E.L.V. Denim uses seven. Founded in East London in 2018, this is the only denim brand in the world working exclusively with 100% upcycled materials — transforming pre-loved garments headed for landfill into considered, handcrafted luxury pieces. This is not slow fashion as a trend. It is slow fashion as a conviction.

Brand Intro

E.L.V. Denim was founded in 2018 by Anna Foster, a fashion stylist who witnessed overconsumption from the inside and decided to build a direct alternative. The name stands for East London Vintage — a deliberate statement about where everything happens: sourcing, washing, cutting, and stitching all take place within the same local community in East London. The brand launched with its now-iconic contrast colour mid-seam jeans and has since expanded into shirts, dresses, and accessories, including a cotton collection upcycled from luxury hotel textiles. Every piece is unique. Production is entirely local, and everyone involved is paid fairly with no zero-hours contracts.

Inspiring Story

Twice a week, Anna Foster and her team head out on what they call a treasure hunt — scouring vintage warehouses across the UK for denim with quality and character worth preserving. What they find determines what gets made. There is no pre-planned collection, no factory order, no virgin fabric. The design process begins with the material, not the other way around. When the denim arrives at the East London studio, each garment is personally handled and catalogued by Anna before being graded, paired, de-branded, and passed to local tailors who cut and stitch entirely by hand. The leather patches that finish each pair of jeans come from remnant leather at East London factories — and their colour changes depending on what is available that week. Customers can literally date their jeans by the patch. In 2022, Anna won Innovate UK’s Women in Innovation Award for her proposal to transform the UK’s textile waste problem into a viable circular economy.

Who is this for?

You have stopped counting how many clothes you own and started caring deeply about each one. You are not looking for another pair of jeans — you are looking for the only pair like yours that will ever exist. You buy rarely and deliberately, and when you do invest, you want to know exactly who made it, where, and why. Fast fashion stopped making sense to you a long time ago. What draws you to E.L.V. Denim is not just the sustainability story — it is the knowledge that your jeans were handpicked from a vintage warehouse, matched by hand, cut and stitched by a skilled craftsperson in East London, and finished with a leather patch that only existed in that colour during that specific week of production. You are buying a one-of-a-kind object with a traceable, human story. If that matters to you, nothing else on the market comes close.
