Most “French brands” have long since moved their production to Asia. Armor-Lux hasn’t. Since 1938, this Breton label has been weaving, knitting, and finishing clothes in Quimper — the same city where it all started. The result is clothing that carries 85 years of craft, not just a country-of-origin label.

Brand Intro

Armor-Lux was founded on 7 October 1938 in Quimper, Brittany, by Walter Hubacher — a Swiss engineer who fell in love with the sea and the Breton way of life. Originally a lingerie and underwear maker, the brand expanded into ready-to-wear from 1947, inspired by the traditional seafarer’s wardrobe. Today, with 600 employees across three production sites and 85 stores, Armor-Lux remains one of the few French textile brands with genuinely integrated local manufacturing. In 2010, it was awarded the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label — France’s recognition of exceptional artisanal and industrial know-how.

Inspiring Story

In 2024, Armor-Lux did something unexpected: it teamed up with DENHAM the Jeanmaker — the Amsterdam-based denim specialist — to create a capsule collection combining Breton knitwear craftsmanship with premium denim innovation. The collection used 100% regenerative cotton and 12oz denim woven in Italy, blending the heritage of French nautical workwear with contemporary denim construction. It was presented at Pitti Uomo — one of fashion’s most prestigious menswear trade fairs. For a brand that started making underwear in wartime Brittany, it was a statement: Armor-Lux has both the confidence and the craft to hold its own at the top table of European fashion.

Who is this for?

You live in or long for an unhurried coastal lifestyle. You buy less but better. You appreciate that a straight-cut cotton jean — no stretch, no polyester, no gimmick — is harder to find than it should be. You want clothes that feel French in the real sense: understated, functional, durable. You’re not chasing logos; you’re investing in pieces that last a decade and look better after 50 washes.
