Most camping tents today are made in Asian factories, optimised for low cost and fast fashion cycles. ESVO has never played that game. From a small workshop in Volendam, this Dutch family business has been sewing cotton tents by hand and machine since 1922 — and still does, on the very same site.

Brand Intro

ESVO was founded in 1922 by Evert Schokker in Volendam, near Amsterdam — the name is literally his initials and hometown. What started as a sail-making company gradually shifted into tent production after 1955, using the same waterproof canvas expertise. Today, in its third generation under director Richard Schokker, ESVO is the largest tent manufacturer in the Netherlands, producing tents, groundsheets, windbreaks, awnings, and tent poles — all from their Marconistraat workshop in Volendam.

Inspiring Story

When premium folding caravan brand Aart Kok (Heemstede) was looking for a new production partner in 2001, they rejected low-wage country factories and chose ESVO instead. The reason was straightforward: ESVO’s craftsmanship, use of TenCate tent canvas, quality zips, and groundsheets met standards that overseas factories simply couldn’t match. That partnership continues today, and it says everything about ESVO’s position in the market — not just the biggest, but the most trusted.

Who is this for?

You camp for weeks at a time, not weekends. You’ve owned cheap synthetic tents that leaked, sagged, and ended up in landfill after three summers — plus they feel like an oven in full sun. Cotton breathes naturally, handles condensation without dripping, and stays cool even on hot days. You want a tent that will still be standing when your children are old enough to borrow it. You buy once, and you buy well.
