Greek fashion often blends ancient heritage with modern wearability, but few do it with such ethical consistency. Kourbela elevates natural yarns into timeless pieces that move with the body. From Plaka’s workshops to global wardrobes, they prove sustainability can be stylishly effortless.
Brand Intro
Kourbela is a family-owned Greek brand founded in 1971 in Plaka, Athens, starting with hand-knitted knitwear. Creative director Ioanna Kourbela took over in 2003, blending family traditions with her fine arts background to create prêt-à-porter, bridal, and home collections using natural materials. All production happens in Greece, in Argyroupoli, Attica, with a team of about 40.
Inspiring Story
In 1971, under the Acropolis in Plaka’s narrow streets, the Kourbela family opened a workshop crafting hand-knitted pieces that drew international travelers. By the 1980s, the second generation innovated with unique weaves from Greek natural yarns, expanding globally. Ioanna Kourbela’s 2003 leadership fused this heritage with her vision—inspired by art, theatre, and geometry—earning awards like the 2016 Emerging Designer at London’s PURE. Today, their commitment keeps every stitch in Greece, supporting local craftspeople and sustainable labs like TCBL.
Who is this for?
You seek effortless style that honors your body and the planet, preferring fluid knits over fast trends. You travel lightly but value pieces that layer for Mediterranean summers or urban days, made ethically without compromise. If Greek geometry and natural yarns spark your aesthetic freedom, this fits your conscious wardrobe.
