Your hygiene kit is probably the heaviest thing in your pack that nobody ever weighs. A tube of toothpaste, a bottle of shampoo, a bar of soap wrapped in single-use plastic — grams that add up and waste that stays behind on the trail. Sloé was built to fix that. Every product is solid, biodegradable, plastic-free, and made in Lyon — a complete hygiene kit that fits in one hand and leaves no trace.
Brand Intro
Sloé was founded in 2019 in Lyon by Bertrand Chaix and Fanny. Bertrand, originally from Annecy, saw the contradiction clearly: outdoor enthusiasts increasingly leave no trace in the landscape, yet carry hygiene products wrapped in single-use plastic that harm the very environments they travel through. Using cold saponification — a slow, low-energy process that preserves the full properties of plant oils — they began producing solid cosmetics from their own Lyon laboratory. Every product is Cosmébio-certified, 100% natural, plastic-free, and designed for refill or reuse. The toothpaste tin boxes are assembled in Lyon by an ESAT — a French social rehabilitation centre employing people with disabilities.
Inspiring Story
The Néo 5-in-1 bar started as a crowdfunding idea on Ulule: one solid bar replacing shampoo, body wash, face wash, shaving soap, and toothpaste. The outdoor community funded it. Then hikers took it onto the GR20, the Pyrenees, and bikepacking routes across Europe and reported back. The solid toothpaste tablets — 60 tablets at 23 grams total, each one a single brushing — followed the same logic: everything a tube does, at a fraction of the weight and with zero plastic. The ESAT partnership that manufactures the aluminium tins in Lyon added a social dimension that is rare in the outdoor industry: lightweight gear, made responsibly, by people who rarely appear in brand stories.
Who is this for?
You count grams in your sleeping system and your shelter — it’s time to count them in your wash kit too. You bivouac regularly and wash in rivers and streams, so biodegradable is not optional. You want one bar of soap and a tin of toothpaste tablets that replace six products, weigh next to nothing, and don’t leak at the bottom of your pack. You hike, bike, or van-travel through Europe and you’re done carrying plastic into places that don’t deserve it.
