Most pyjamas are an afterthought. Dagsmejan turned them into a scientific instrument. Founded in Zurich after 18 months of research alongside sleep scientists, materials engineers and textile experts, this brand treats sleep as a performance metric. What you wear at night, it turns out, changes everything about how well you recover.
Brand Intro
Dagsmejan was founded in 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland, by Andreas Lenzhofer and Catarina Dahlin — a husband-and-wife team who spent nearly two decades in consulting before asking a deceptively simple question: why hasn’t sleepwear been designed around sleep science? Over 18 months, they partnered with researchers from Stockholm University, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science (EMPA), and the University of Lucerne to develop proprietary fabrics. Every product combines Swedish design sensibility with Swiss precision engineering, and all production takes place in Europe under strict ethical and environmental standards.
Inspiring Story
When Andreas Lenzhofer first pitched the idea of science-engineered pyjamas, the response from the industry was dismissal. “At the beginning, people laughed at us,” he later recalled. “Now they try to copy us.” He and co-founder Catarina Dahlin pressed forward anyway, spending 18 months in collaboration with university sleep labs before a single garment was sold. The breakthrough was NATTWELL™ — a patented fabric technology that gives botanic fibres (beechwood) both hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties simultaneously, performing like technical sportswear while remaining as soft as natural fabric. Launched to the market in 2018, Dagsmejan reached 12 million Swiss francs in turnover by 2022. Catarina Dahlin was named a finalist in the international Founder of the Year competition in 2023.
Who is this for?
You take sleep seriously. You’ve read the research on sleep temperature, you know that overheating at 2am is costing you deep sleep cycles, and you’re done tolerating damp cotton by morning. Or perhaps you’re an athlete who trains hard and wants every hour of sleep to count for recovery. Maybe you have sensitive skin and every other fabric has let you down. You invest in quality kit for the trail or the gym — it’s time your night-time gear matched the same standard.
