What Happened Outdoors – Custom Ultralight Packs from Slovenia

Custom mountaineering backpacks hand-sewn by one woman on the sunny side of the Alps.

“I’ve literally dragged it all over the Alps in the past few months, using it for alpine climbing, bikepacking, mountaineering, and ice climbing. It still looks like new.” — Neža Peterca

Gear breaks. Neža Peterca of What Happened Outdoors doesn’t throw it away — she repairs it, rebuilds it, and calls the scars part of the story. From her one-woman workshop in Slovenia, she hand-sews custom ultralight mountaineering packs that travel to the Himalayas, Antarctica and the Julian Alps, then come back for a second life.

Brand Intro

What Happened Outdoors is founded and run by Neža Peterca in Slovenia, on the sunny side of the Alps. After years repairing Patagonia gear and running an urban cycling brand across Europe, she returned home to build custom ultralight backpacks and mountaineering bags using UHMWPE and Dyneema fabrics. Every pack starts with a conversation about the exact user, the exact route, and the exact load.

Inspiring Story

The brand name says everything: it came from the repair counter. Customers arrived with wrecked packs and broken stories — what happened to this? Neža started fixing them, then improving them, then building her own. Today her packs are used by mountain guides logging 200+ outdoor days per year, alpinists on Himalayan expeditions, and bikepackers crossing continents. When the gear comes back damaged, she repairs it again. The scars, she says, are part of the design.

Who is this for?

You climb, mountaineer or go on multi-day expeditions where your pack has to be exactly right. Off-the-rack never fit your torso, your style, or your load. You want gear built for your specific objectives — and when something breaks after 300 days in the mountains, you want to send it back to the person who made it.
