Most hammock brands come from America or Asia. Yet the ultralight hammock community in Europe has quietly been building its own answer — and it comes from Lithuania. Need for Trees is the first Lithuanian hammock brand, and its founder built it not with advertising budgets, but with obsessive attention to product quality. When Reddit’s hammock community calls it “the best hammock in Europe right now”, that’s not marketing — that’s earned.
Brand Intro
Need for Trees was founded by Daumantas Drukteinis in Ylakiai, Lithuania — the first hammock brand ever to emerge from the Baltic states. Born from a desire to spend more time outdoors without sacrificing comfort or performance, the brand designs and produces ultralight hammocks with integrated bug nets and complete suspension systems. Daumantas runs the company as a solo founder, deliberately avoiding distributors and advertising spend in order to keep prices competitive and quality front-and-centre. Everything ships directly to customers across Europe.
Inspiring Story
In March 2025, a question appeared on Reddit’s hammock community: “Anyone willing to share experience with Need for Trees hammocks?” Within hours, the founder himself showed up in the thread. “It’s needfortrees here,” he wrote, explaining that his company had just celebrated its first anniversary. No advertising, no distributor network — just a solo maker in Ylakiai betting that the product would speak for itself.
That bet appears to be paying off. The full hammock setup — including the integrated bug net and complete suspension system — comes in at 580g, a benchmark that ultralight hikers across Europe have started to notice. For a brand less than two years old, that kind of reputation is rare. It is built gram by gram, stitch by stitch, in Lithuania.
Who is this for?
You camp or hike in European forests and you’ve grown tired of paying premium prices to American brands with overseas shipping costs that inflate the final bill by 50%. You care about gram counts — seriously. You know that a hammock system under 600g changes what’s possible on a multi-day trip. You want a bug net that’s already built in, a suspension that’s already rigged, and a maker you can actually talk to. You’re happy to buy directly, support a small European craftsman, and get something genuinely good in return.
